How We Saved a Home Sale From Missing Paperwork

Buying or selling a home isn’t just about negotiating a great deal—it’s about problem-solving when the unexpected happens.
Recently, I represented sellers who were finally closing a chapter of their lives. The buyers had already loaded their moving vans and were on the way to South Carolina. Then disaster struck: the closing attorney called to say we couldn’t close. The reason? The federal government had misplaced the official certified payoff for the original mortgage. Without it, the sale couldn’t proceed.
The buyers panicked—they had already sold their home. The sellers thought they might never get to closing.
But here’s where experience matters. I knew that a U.S. Senator’s office can intervene with federal agencies. With Senator Tim Scott’s office stepping in, the missing paperwork was located and certified. Within 48 hours, we had what we needed, and the home closed—just two days later than planned.
This is why having an experienced realtor matters. You need more than someone to list your home. You need someone who can solve problems, navigate obstacles, and protect your deal from falling apart.
If you’re buying or selling in Greenville-Spartanburg, let’s talk. My job is to get you to the closing table—no matter what roadblocks stand in the way.
